Indonesia Marks 80 Years of Independence with Celebrations in Karachi

KARACHI: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi commemorated the nation’s 80th Independence Day on Sunday with a dignified flag-hoisting ceremony that reflected unity, cultural pride, and national spirit.

The ceremony was led by H.E. Mr. Dewanto Priyokusumo, Chargé d’Affaires of the Consulate, and centered on this year’s theme: “Bersatu Berdaulat Rakyat Sejahtera Indonesia Maju” — “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People for a Progressive Indonesia.”

Indonesian citizens residing in Karachi, including students and families of mixed Indonesian-Pakistani heritage, attended the event with great enthusiasm. In his speech, Mr. Priyokusumo shared highlights from President Prabowo’s national address, stressing the importance of eradicating poverty and hunger while ensuring economic independence to serve the needs of the people. He further emphasized unity, adherence to the rule of law, and a firm stand against corruption.

President Prabowo’s message also underlined the government’s focus on welfare programs, such as the Free Nutritious Meals initiative, infrastructure expansion, and the crucial role of education in building a healthy, productive generation.

Following the formal proceedings, participants enjoyed traditional Indonesian dishes and interactive games that created an atmosphere of joy and togetherness. The celebration not only honored Indonesia’s long journey of independence but also strengthened bonds of friendship among the Indonesian community in Sindh, showcasing the enduring values of unity and cooperation.
